Considering Blue...

Blue.

Blue is the colour of The Beautiful South
and the swear words to help you know Alice
it is power and sadness that combined with gold
makes a green known for envy and malice.

Blue is the tone of the angry dark sky,
It is ice cool, it is sirens and cops
It is powerful waterfalls, quaint garden birds
it is seasides and strutting peacocks.

Blue is the colour of comfortable jeans
It is water- half the surface of Earth
We attach it to boys and their violent toys
Yet it's the shade that they chose for the Smurfs.

Lapis Lazuli, Sapphire, alcopops
All the valuable things- Chelsea's football socks
For the old to the new- there's a fashionable blue
Whether sex pills or willow plate pots.

To a wonderful hue then, wherever you find it
From the oceans right up to the skies
Build a tapestry quilt from the various shades,
For we all need some blue in our lives.

Thanks for reading, S
