Oxygen

Oxygen

They dragged my ancestors here in chains,
enslaved and oppressed
from the cradle to the grave.
When we stood up for our rights
they would knock us down
but we would not be moved
we stood our ground.
We are punished for crimes
that you cannot prove,
yet here we remain -
in the land of the free.
And here I am -
neck under your knee.

I can't breathe.

Adele V Robinson.
